The hottest TDI price soared all the way in 2007,

  • Detail

In 2007, the price of TDI soared all the way, and the supply and demand could not be balanced in the short term.

TDI is mainly used in the production of soft foam, paint coatings, elastomers and other polyurethane materials in the form of foaming agents and additives. In short, it is used to produce soft foam for cushions, mattresses, sofas and chairs, furniture and other aspects. The application of soft foam accounts for 80% to 90% of TDI usage. This year, TDI (toluene diisocyanate), an important chemical raw material in the domestic polyurethane industry, got on a crazy roller coaster. It soared all the way, from 25000 yuan/ton last year to 55000 yuan/ton this year. Insiders predict that the upward trend will continue until the first half of next year

tdi price doubled every year

like the crazy real estate industry in China, the TDI price of coating raw materials in China has soared more than twice this year, and the price trend of several ups and downs has made many coating chemical enterprises downstream of TDI jumpy

according to insiders, since the explosion of Bayer's 200000 ton TDI device in the United States last September, TDI has experienced a tight supply situation in the world, driving the domestic market prices to rise. At the beginning of this year, BASF also suspended the sales of 80% of its TDI products in North America due to mechanical failures in the factory. This resulted in a wave of price hikes for domestic TDI products in January, reaching more than 40000 yuan

on May 11, an explosion occurred in the nitrification section of the TDI workshop of Cangzhou Dahua Chemical Co., Ltd., and all the 30000 ton TDI production lines of the plant were shut down, with a year-on-year decrease of 4.25%, 6.42% and 7.90% respectively. TDI made the piston rise by a distance, and the price rebounded rapidly after hitting the bottom in April, with a sharp rise of nearly 10000 yuan in one month. In the same period, South Korean equipment suffered from force majeure and reduced its export volume to China. Since then, BASF Shanghai's 160000 ton TDI equipment has been on and off, causing TDI prices to fluctuate sharply up and down

Weng Hanyuan, Deputy Secretary General of China Polyurethane Industry Association, said that the large price fluctuation of TDI this year was caused by the continuous shutdown of production capacity by international and domestic enterprises this year; On the other hand, as highly toxic products, China's import management of TDI in the second half of the year is very strict, and the import is limited, which makes the price of TDI high

supply and demand cannot be balanced in the short term

insiders pointed out that in the past two to three years, TDI has been achieved through painting, and the imbalance between supply and demand will not change, and the development prospect in the short term is still promising. As polyurethane products are widely used in light industry, construction, automobile, chemical industry and other industries, with the economic development and upgrading of consumer goods, the market believes that the domestic demand for TDI will continue to grow rapidly in the next few years. In 2006, China's TDI consumption was about 337000 tons. It is estimated that by 2010, the domestic TDI demand will be about 480000 tons. During, the annual average growth rate of domestic TDI demand was about 9.2%. On the other hand, the current domestic TDI annual production capacity is about 274000 tons. Coupled with the insufficient operating rate, factory explosions and other emergencies, some devices can not operate normally and other issues, the domestic gap is large. "This imbalance between supply and demand will not change in the last two to three years, and the prospects for development in the short term are still promising." Weng Hanyuan said

insiders pointed out that from the second half of 2008, some new TDI production units will be completed and put into operation successively, which will stabilize the price of TDI in the future. The overall price of TDI should fall back appropriately next year, and the price below 30000 yuan is relatively reasonable

at present, there are five TDI production enterprises in China, including Cangzhou Dahua (600230), Gansu Yinguang, Bluestar Cleaning (000598), Jinhua chlor alkali (000818) and Shandong Juli (000880). These five enterprises will increase their production capacity by nearly 200000 tons in 2010. In addition, a number of new production capacity of multinational companies in China have been put into operation or are under planning and construction. BASF is an enterprise with the most advanced TDI technology and the largest production scale in the world. Its Shanghai Lianheng TDI company has a production capacity of 160000 tons; Bayer also plans to build a fully integrated TDI production plant in Shanghai, which is expected to reach production capacity by the end of 2009, with an annual output of 160000 tons

it is understood that the use field and demand of TDI are not as good as MDI. TDI is classified as highly toxic chemicals, and its production, operation, transportation, storage and other processes are strictly limited. In the chemical industry, which increasingly pursues and emphasizes environmental protection performance, it is almost an indisputable fact that TDI will be replaced by new products. Under normal circumstances, the selling price of MDI is higher than that of TDI, but at present, the retail price of MDI is 33000-35000 yuan/ton, while TDI is more than 50000 yuan/ton. This reverse price relationship also puts great pressure on downstream manufacturers of TDI. I. problems such as the disconnection between new material standards and downstream utilization standards. Some downstream enterprises have responded to the soaring price of TDI by reducing production or even shutting down; In a few replaceable fields, such as waterborne polyurethane, liquefied MDI has been used to replace TDI to reduce costs
